Well it's been nice knowing you and I've enjoyed tossing unhealthy amounts of cash at you over the years;

Love your bikes, love the way you make them hum after a service however your new "company policy" of refusing to mount tyres that haven't been purchased from you is total bullshit.

Me: "But what about the poor guy who's just ridden up from mexico with a spare set and turns up at your doorstep desperately needing them fitted?"

BMW: "Sorry but we cannot help them either"

Now I'm normally not a fan of these online dealer rants but in this case I just wanted to warn fellow BMW riders of this new nazi policy. They would sooner tell you to fuck off and not take your $900 for a 12K service than spend 60 (billable) mins to mount a couple of tyres. Unbelievable.

The good news is I've found a new dealer who is only too happy to mount them, has pre-ordered some service bulletin parts and will charge me $300 less for a 12K service.

how reliable are the BMW G 650 GS's compared to the sportster 883 xl.
Not to sound rude or anything, but that seems a bit shady

I can vouch for the 650 GS.... supper reliable, does it all & it works so good it's boring.
Alan
Never rode a Sporty though... but hear they came a long way in terms of reliability.. way cool though & check out the Nightster Version... But, from what I can tell, the Harley Scene will sometimes tell you to get a Real Harley... But if I went that route I'd puberty get me The 48

or The Nighster

or Standard of the Year--- The XR

The XR is a lot of Bike for the Money.

Some of my favorite moments at Manhattan BMW...

1. Sales guy says "See that? N is for north!" (as he points to the gear indicator in Neutral on the Dash of my bike) " Your bike has a compass"...

2. The blank look on his face when I ask him exactly how my F800gs can monitor my tire pressure when it has TUBED tires...

3. When Chris-the manager-(UBER DICK)-asked me if I'd like to go away with him to sleep away camp to learn how to ride-in the first 5 minutes I was in the store...

4. When the idiot girl behind the counter did not know what a 12V converter plug or a GPS was...

5. When I called twice to take advantage of their $49.99 oil change that THEY JUST EMAILED ME about, only to receive no response back and then did the oil change myself...Then a month later, I get a phone call back from a sales person telling me "I'm sorry but the bike you called about has been sold" I was too frustrated to call them back to tell them I all ready purchased my bike from them... and I WAS CALLING TO GIVE THEM MONEY TO SERVICE MY BIKE!

6. When....Oh I don't think I need to go on here but it only gets worse...

I am now a loyal customer to Max BMW in Troy and I did my 6,000 mile service myself. From now on anything James or I can't do, we will take to Max to do... If it wasn't such a well made machine I would have never given Manhattan my money.

+1.... but I'm still searching for a replacement.

My brother in law used to get his MINI serviced there. Almost every service they would tell him that one of his run flat tires needed replacement. KaChing! They charge an un-Godly markup for their tires... I guess its the same for the bikes!

Never trust what a dealer tells you. I recently had some work done on my Jeep at the dealer in Liberty, NY where I bought it. He told me I needed ball joints. As I wasn't able to afford doing it at that moment. I had my mechanic in Brooklyn check them. Don't need them. Seems like the mechanics at some dealers tell the service manager that work needs to be doesn't that doesn't just to bring in more cash. I only let the dealer repair things I knew had to be repaired/replaced.

Gentlemen, I too feel your pain and frustration! I am so tired of the same ole s$&t with them! They never have anything and there prices are so expensive for old stuff. Ralph and Rodney asked me why didn't I ask them to work with me on the price before buying things else where? I told them because your prices are unrealistic! I will not go to manhattan anymore. I am considering NJ or gold coast. When it's all said in done I can spend money anywhere I want. I will no longer spend any of my money in there! They lost out big too because wifey has finally committed herself to changing her bike sometime in late august. She kept eyeballing the r1200gs but she is also looking at the triumph tiger loaded.

"You need ball joints" is the oldest scam in the car business. Probably Henry Ford invented it.
If you put the car on the lift a certain way, they will rattle and shake. Because they are supposed to.

I would NEVER go back to any shop that told me I need ball joints.

Of course, someone someplace may actually need ball joints, but I have never seen it.

Just Got back From Max BMW in Troy. Picked up some new tires. Got 10 % off because I was a nice person. ;)

Image

They didn't care if I mounted them or they mounted them. They also gave me lots of good advice and pointers for my husband to do to the bike.

I've never been to a dealerships where you really get the feeling they don't need your money but they are really just helping you because they love the brand and they love riding.

Oh yeah...Free lunch today(courtesy of Max BMW) and tomorrow at the BMW rally at Pownal VT> Yeah, that's right their feeding over 3,000 riders for free. Because they're just that awesome.

Had good experiences with over 5 different people there.
